Week of August 2, 2010 is Buy Michigan Week in Michigan

It’s official, the governor has proclaimed Mon Aug 2nd – Sun Aug 8th as Buy Michigan Week!

Whereas, Purchasing products made in Michigan by Michigan-based companies contributes to building a strong, vibrant and diverse Michigan economy by maintaining jobs and encouraging business growth in the state; and,

Whereas, Buying fresh, locally grown food is a healthier, more wholesome choice and benefits and strengthens our communities by boosting the financial system and preserving farmland; and,

Whereas, We can “Buy Fresh, Buy Local, Give Local” by contributing Michigan foods to local food banks, which will help our neighbors in need and provide access to fresh, local, healthy food for all Michigan residents; and,

Whereas, Residents of this state can play an active role in promoting all our great state has to offer by conducting research to discover where to buy Michigan products and services, asking restaurants to carry more Michigan foods, beer, and wine, and buying from local farmers’ markets;

Now, Therefore, be it Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, governor of the state of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of August 2, 2010, Buy Michigan Week in Michigan. I encourage all residents of this state to take advantage of the many great products and services the state of Michigan has to offer by buying Michigan first.

The purpose is to encourage people to discover, celebrate, & monetarily support Michigan businesses. Mark your calendar & make a plan to do something special like visit a farmers’ market, find a local supplier for something you get from out of state, and/or come to our festival. If you own a business, put your Michigan-made products on sale and/or put signs up to tell people about Buy Michigan Week! And be sure to visit the Buy Michigan Now Festival on August 6, 7, and 8 in Northville, Michigan.
