About the Coffee
Colombia Narino Supremo coffee comes from small family owned farms in the growing region in the department of Nariño, Colombia. Supremo beans are large and uniform with 90% of them over screen 18. Varieties mostly seen here are 80% Caturra and 20% Castillo. The main harvest is between April to August, and the mitaca (second) harvest is between December and February. The ripe cherries are hand picked, mostly by women from the region, then wet processed using traditional fermentation, washing with pure mountain water using a series of canals at their own micro-wet mills and then dry the coffee, typically on elevated tables inside solar dryers that provide protection from the rain.
The Nariño region is located in the southwestern corner of Colombia merging the central and western mountain ranges of the Colombian Andes. The Department (State) of Nariño is abundant in volcanic soil with good rainfall. Narino is surrounded by Tolima, Cauca and Huila which together comprise the Southern growing region. Crops are harvested from April to June and from October to December. About 90% of coffee in the area is grown in full or partial shade. Elevations run high at 1750 to 2100 meters.
About Joe’s Brother
I believe coffee should do more than just taste good. It should DO good. Loosing my brother to ALS inspired me to start Joe’s Brother Coffee as a way to honor his memory and make something good come out of his passing. My brother Joe, was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in March of 2012 and passed away less than 6 months later, leaving behind his wife and 3 young girls. We also lost our father to ALS 15 years before that in 1997.
Joe had a love for coffee, family and his community unrivaled by anyone I know. I feel the same as my brother Joe did, and I believe we can do right by the coffee farmer AND do right by our families, friends and neighbors right here in our own backyard.
When I decided to start Joe’s Brother Coffee, I knew I had to make it more than just about the coffee. It had to mean something more than just great coffee and great service. So, when you buy any Joe’s Brother Coffee product, you know you’re getting more than just the finest and freshest coffee around, you are supporting the important work needed in the ALS research, Care Services and other great causes.
A pound of coffee isn’t much by it’s self, but it can go a long way when you put it together with many others. By choosing Joe’s Brother Coffee, you’re helping every day.
Make coffee. Do good!
