The Mackinac Bridge connects Michigan’s Upper and Lower peninsulas by spanning the 5 mile Straits of Mackinac where Lake Michigan meets Lake Huron – making it the 3rd longest (but arguably the most beautiful) suspension bridge in the world. The straits are a major Great Lakes shipping route, connecting the busy ports of Chicago and Milwaukee with the rest of the lake system.
